Safe Kids Alaska

safekidsalaskalogoChildhood Injury Prevention is a critical mission of Providence Alaska Medical Center. In 1987, Providence Alaska Medical Center became the lead agency for the Safe Kids Alaska State Coalition. The mission of Safe Kids Alaska is "Preventing Childhood Injury in The Last Frontier" by addressing unintentional, preventable injuries to Alaska's children ages 19 years and under. We are part of the Safe Kids Worldwide network, based in Washington DC.

Child Passenger Safety (CPS) car seat certification and education programs and services, International Walk to School Day "Walk This Way" pedestrian safety program, reflectors/visibility education and resources, fire safety, children's safety fairs, bike safety and helmet education, smoke detector and CO education, and Kid's Don't Float life jacket loaner stations are a few of the health and safety programs available to children and their caregivers throughout the state. Coalitions and CPS fitting stations of Safe Kids Alaska are established statewide.

The program is aided in its efforts by Providence's Safety Seal, a life-sized character who has become the symbol of Providence injury prevention.

Safe Kids Alaska is a founding member of the Alaska Child Passenger Safety Coalition and sponsor of the Coalition website: www.carseatsak.org
