Providence gains national recognition for quality care and patient safety efforts 
The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals: Health System Benchmarks is an annual, quantitative study from objective, independent research using public data sources. The study recognized the 15 health systems setting the highest benchmarks as well as the best-performing 64 health systems of the 321 researched.
 
Providence Alaska Medical Center has been recognized for achievement in using evidence-based guidelines to provide the best possible care to patients through The American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® program.
 
Providence Earns ACR-ASTRO Accreditation For Radiation Oncology 
Providence Alaska Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.
 
The National Quality Forum and The Joint Commission today announced the 2010 recipients of the annual John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards. Honorees were selected in three award categories.
 
Mountain-Pacific Quality Health awards Providence Alaska Medical Center with their highest honor 
Providence Alaska Medical Center is a recipient of the 2010 Quality Achievement Award presented by Mountain-Pacific Quality Health. The award was presented during the Alaska State Hospital & Nursing Home Association (ASHNHA) annual conference.

Providence Alaska Medical Center has earned Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification from the Joint Commission. Achievement of certification signifies that an organization uses evidence-based practices to achieve optimal outcomes for patients with stroke.

Statewide health system recognized for improvement in health care technologies

The publishers of Hospital and Health Networks magazine recently recognized that commitment by naming PHSA a winner of a 2007 Most Wired award in their July issue.
 
PECC recognized for pain management program
Residents of Providence Extended Care Center have seen the daily pain they experience reduced by a remarkable degree over the last few years — from 15 percent in 2004 to only three percent today.
 
PAMC the 2006 Employer of Choice in the Greater Anchorage Area
Providence Health & Services Alaska was named the 2006 Employer of Choice among large companies by the Anchorage Society for Human Resource Management. The 2006 Employer of Choice Award was open to all employers in the Greater Anchorage area.
 
Providence Alaska Recognized for Rapid Response Team
Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) has been recognized by VHA Inc., the national health care alliance, for improving team performance with its Rapid Response Team. PAMC is the only hospital in the state to earn recognition from VHA for performance improvement activities.

Providence Alaska's Internet site received national recognition for Best Site Design among hospitals with 200-399 beds at the 2006 eHealthcare Leadership Awards.

For the second consecutive year, Working Mother magazine has named Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) one of the nation's most family-friendly companies. PAMC joins such companies as Microsoft, IBM, Johnson and Johnson, and Ford Motor Co. in the magazine's Top 100 list just released in the October 2006 issue.

Working Mother Magazine has honored Providence Alaska Medical Center with an award that names it as one of the nation’s 100 best family-friendly companies.  Providence Alaska Medical Center joins companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, American Express and General Electric in the magazines Top 100 list just released in the October 2005 issue.

Association of Air Medical Services Award of Excellence

Providence LifeGuard Air Ambulance was awarded the prestigious Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) 2005 Fixed-Wing Award of Excellence. This award recognizes a team that has made significant contributions to enhance the development or promote the improvement of patient care and safety in fixed-wing air medical transport.

Qualis Award of Excellence in Health Care Quality

Qualis Health has named Providence Alaska Medical Center the winner of an Award of Excellence in Health Care Quality. Qualis, a private, nonprofit health care organization dedicated to quality improvement, selected Providence for “outstanding work in 2004 to improve the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia and other complications of mechanical ventilation.
 
Providence Alaska Honored with 2005 Excellence Award
Providence Alaska Medical Center received a 2005 President’s Award for Excellence presented by Providence Health System. The award was presented on April 25 to the multidisciplinary team for its success in significantly improving ventilator management, specifically for decreasing the rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Success By 6 presents the 2005 Work/Family Awards

Providence Health System in Alaska received the Work/Family Award for the large non-profit category. This marks the second consecutive win for Providence and the forth win in five years.
 
Facilities Support Department Recognized for Best Practices
Providence Facilities Support Department was recently acknowledged for three "best practices" for hospital projects in the American Society for Healthcare Engineering publication in the March-April 2005 issue.
