Why Choose Providence for Your Heart Care?

As the most comprehensive heart care program in Alaska, we provide our patients with the highest quality care and treatment – all close to home. But top-rated care is just one of the reasons we care for more heart and vascular patients than any other facility in the state. Here are five more:

Our patients are at the heart of everything we do, which is why we’re always looking for ways to make your experience better. As part of this commitment, we offer cardiovascular nurse navigator programs. Our nurse navigators spend one-on-one time with patients and families. These care team members can answer your questions, remove barriers to care and help you prepare for procedures. Our patient-centered approach is why Alaskans have trusted Providence with their care for more than 120 years.

We use minimally invasive procedures whenever possible to improve outcomes and reduce recovery times. In fact, we’re the only hospital in Alaska to perform the MitraClip procedure to treat a leaky heart valve. We’re also the only hospital in the state to implant CardioMEMS, a remote heart failure monitoring system that helps treat patients and prevent further hospitalizations. Our innovative treatments mean you can get the care you need right here in Alaska.

A positive care experience always takes a team! Our cardiologists are experts in the most advanced therapeutic and interventional techniques to treat your heart or vascular disease. Your heart care team may include anesthesiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists, vascular surgeons, respiratory therapists and other cardiac specialists. We perform more procedures than any other facility in Alaska, so you know you’re getting the best, most experienced care.

We understand that the impact of heart disease is greater in some communities. Genetics plays a part, but unequal access to great health care is also a factor. At Providence, we make sure each of our patients has access to the best heart care. As part of that commitment, we offer outreach locations so patients don’t have to travel far to receive care. Options include remote CardioMEMS and a monthly echo clinic in rural areas. We also offer translation services and financial counseling and assistance.

We value, respect and support the racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, gender and sexual identities of each member of our diverse community. We aim to treat every patient equally and with dignity – whoever you are, and wherever you are in your journey.

We are part of Providence Alaska, which features world-class cardiologists in two hospitals and four outpatient centers. Every cardiovascular patient at Providence benefits from a collaborative network that includes award-winning physicians, scientists, researchers and caregivers across 51 hospitals in seven states. The power of our network is one of the reasons we treated nearly 19,000 adult patients in 2022.
