Pediatric Center at Providence

pediatricsLocated on the 3rd floor, building D at Providence Alaska Medical Center, The Pediatric Center is dedicated to providing a full range of services to infants through adolescents. We are committed to working with children, families and professional staff to create a comfortable setting to help families through the hospitalization of their child while maintaining the highest quality of care specific to each patients needs.

The Pediatric Center is made up of two sister units that share common support space and professional staff:
 
Pediatrics
A 21-bed unit designed to meet the needs of families and children requiring hospital care for medical or surgical problems. Staff are trained and experienced in the care of children of all ages. Parents are welcome at all times.
 
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
This 9-bed unit for children with critical illness and injuries is the only place of its’ kind in the state of Alaska. State-of-the-art care is delivered by a group of highly skilled professionals who specialize in the care of children using the latest medical equipment and technologies.
 
Support Services
A team of professionals representing many specialty areas offers their expertise to support you and your child throughout your hospital experience. We believe that families play an important part in the development and well being of children including their recovery from illness or injury. We understand that this is a stressful experience not only for your child but for your entire family.
 
In addition to expert medical and nursing care the Pediatric Center is proud to be able to provide the services of many other specialties to support your child’s recovery.
 
Depending upon your needs and those of your child, many other services are available including:
 
• Respiratory Therapists
• Pharmacists
• Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists
• Dieticians
• Social Workers
• Chaplain services
 
A Child Life Specialist will help your child understand and cope with his or her experience through the use of therapeutic play and various distraction techniques. Several play areas are maintained with age-appropriate toys, books and arts and crafts. Many items can be brought to the room if your child is not able to go to the playrooms.
