How To Get Started Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of 100 hours over a 6-month period. Some departments require a 12-month commitment and a pre-interview. Assignments are once or twice weekly the same day and time for 2-4 hours.
 
Print and complete the application packet. This includes:
  • Application for Volunteering (PDF) - to be completed by everyone 14+ years
  • Volunteer Agreement - to be completed by everyone 14+ years
  • Alaska Background Check Application - to be completed by all prospective volunteers 16 years and over. This form is submitted to the State of Alaska.  Note: The required Demographic Information must be data which is identical on your current state driver's license, or state I.D.
  • Release of Information Authorization for Background Check  – to be completed by all prospective volunteers 16 years and over. Please complete carefully and completely; this information is submitted to the State Of Alaska.

Obtain required immunizations listed below.

  • 2 MMR vaccinations, or a titer (blood draw) verifying immunity to Rubella, Rubeola and Mumps
  • 2 Varicella vaccines or a titer (blood draw) verifying immunity to Varicella (chicken pox)
  • 2 TB tests (PPD) - One anytime within the past year and a current one is required.
Students in high school and college are encouraged to get their TB tests at their school. Please call or email with questions regarding immunizations.

Junior Volunteers

  • Required documentation:  formal letter of recommendation from an adult, which includes but is not limited to: ROTC Officer, teacher, counselor, pastor, employer, or any other civic community member.
  • 14/15 Year Old Volunteers:  please contact our office at 212-3818 to enquire about opportunities, as they are limited to serving in the Volunteer Services Office only.
  • Academic/Organization/Scholarship Projects & Hours Needed:  Providence Alaska Medical Center does not accept applications for volunteering, which are for less than 100 hours of service. 
Pet Assisted Wellness Services (PAWS)

Required documentation:  A current rabies vaccination must be included with the application packet.
