Laboratory Services

Providence  Kodiak Island  Medical Center's lab is a full service Joint Commission accredited laboratory. It is located on the main (2nd) floor of the hospital near the emergency department, respiratory therapy and radiology. Certified medical laboratory scientists, laboratory technicians and phlebotomists staff the laboratory. Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center laboratory is licensed to perform high complexity laboratory testing and performs the majority of these tests in the facility. Tests not performed at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center are sent to reference laboratories that are approved by PKIMC’s medical staff and are also accredited through various laboratory agencies.
Save Lives as an On-Call Emergency Blood Donor
Because Kodiak is a remote island, the PKIMC lab also houses an emergency on-call blood donation system--a rare capability for clinical labs of any size. This donation system has saved many lives. Donors sign up and are called upon to provide blood when a patient's life is immediately at stake and blood reserves are not sufficient to meet the need. To help save lives as an emergency blood donor, come to the lab. Type O donors are especially needed.

The laboratory is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday and 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturday and Sunday for outpatient blood draws.
