The Segelhorst Legacy

December 02, 2019

N.E. 'Knobby' and Mary Ellen Segelhorst, individually, quietly and unassumingly began their philanthropy in the years before they married. In the 47 years they were together they continued giving of their time and sharing of their resources. They never asked for nor expected public recognition as their giving was, for them, just the right thing to do.

Knobby's and Mary's first gift to Providence Alaska Foundation was for the Providence House Endowment (now the Hickel House) in January 1985.

From that first donation over 34 years ago, they made gifts in support of the Cancer Center, Heart Center, Children's Hospital and wherever the need was greatest.

Now, Knobby’s and Mary’s legacy lives on through The N.E. Knobby and Mary Ellen Segelhorst Endowment. This endowment will continue their lifelong passion for supporting education, youth and their community in perpetuity. Their endowment will support the programs and services at The Children’s Hospital at Providence, with special consideration for services that care for vulnerable children at The Children’s Hospital and Alaska CARES, Anchorage’s Child Abuse Response and Evaluation Service.

At Providence, legacy gifts are especially sacred. The Segelhorst endowment will make a difference in countless lives and is a beautiful demonstration of human compassion. Thank you Knobby and Mary for your generosity and caring that spanned your lives - and beyond.
