Interventional Radiology

Imaging often plays a critical role in diagnosing many medical conditions. Increasingly, it plays an important part in treating them as well.

With guidance from imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans and ultrasound, interventional radiologists use tiny instruments that they pass through blood vessels or other pathways in the body to areas needing medical treatment. This enables them to address or correct many medical issues.

In the past, surgery may have been your only option for treating these conditions. But interventional radiology doesn’t involve large incisions and is far less invasive. It generally carries less risk than surgery, causes less discomfort and results in a shorter recovery.

Our interventional radiologists treat a number of medical conditions. Some of the most common include:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm
  • Bleeding
  • Blocked arteries
  • Blood clots
  • Cancer
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Infection
  • Stroke
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Varicose veins

Safety

Your safety is our top priority when you’re undergoing an imaging test. Although some tests expose you to ionizing radiation, we use the lowest dose necessary. Your doctor always weighs the benefits of the information that will be obtained from your test against any potential risks.

If you are pregnant, think you might be or are trying to become pregnant, please inform the technologist before your procedure begins. We will carefully assess your situation to determine any risk. In some cases, we may recommend that you delay your exam.
