The Pediatric Center at Providence Alaska Children's Hospital is a special area that provides inpatient medical treatment for children of all ages. Using a family-centered care model, we strive to deliver the very best inpatient care in a family-friendly environment.

Our team of pediatric specialists works hard to make your family comfortable and to include you in your child’s care plan. From babies to teenagers, each patient’s care plan is customized to their individual condition and developmental needs.

To visit a patient, please check-in at the Pediatric Welcome Desk and complete a health screening questionnaire. Check current visitation guidelines before visiting a patient. You must have parental approval to visit regardless of the patient’s age. Please bring copies of your court-ordered child custody agreement if applicable.

In order to protect the health of our patients, we ask that all visitors be free from contagious illnesses. We also recommend that parents control the number and length of visits based on their child’s needs to ensure proper rest.

We do not consider parents as visitors

If you’re a parent, you’re encouraged to stay with your child at all times and participate in their care.

How to speak to a patient by phone

If you’re trying to reach a patient or family member by phone, please call 907-212-5844 and ask to be connected to the patient’s room. You must know the patient’s full name in order to be connected. Parents and family members are not listed in the hospital directory.

Our team treats children who are admitted to the hospital after an emergency room visit, after a planned surgery, through medical evaluation or directly from a doctor’s office. A pediatric hospitalist manages your child’s treatment while here. The hospitalist (a doctor who cares for hospitalized patients) communicates and works with your child’s surgeon or specialty pediatrician to ensure comprehensive, efficient treatment.

In addition to these services, the Pediatric Center at Providence Alaska Children's Hospital is the only facility in Alaska that treats pediatric oncology patients. We are also a Level II pediatric trauma center.

Our facility is divided into three themed areas: the Forest, the Train and the Seaside. These areas are designed to be kid-friendly, and each one has its own dedicated team of nurses.

We do everything we can to make your family’s stay as comfortable as possible. Every patient room is equipped with a parent sleeping area, TV, telephone and private bathroom. A family pantry and washing machine and dryer are also available for convenience.

If you have time to prepare for your child’s hospitalization, we encourage you to bring a couple of personal items such as toys or stuffed animals from home. These can help your child feel more comfortable while in the hospital.

We know the hospital can be a scary place for children (and parents too, sometimes). To help your child and family cope, we offer several support services. These services are provided by pediatric social workers, certified child life specialists, chaplains, case managers and educators.

Speak to your child’s care team to arrange a visit with one of these specialists or to learn more about the support they provide.

Your child’s Pediatric Unit care team is led by expert pediatric hospitalists who work with providers from other pediatric specialties, including surgery, cardiology, nephrology, hematology and oncology, pulmonology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology and endocrinology.

Our team also includes child life specialists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, physical therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, chaplains, social workers, case managers and lactation specialists who are trained to address the unique health care needs of children and adolescents.
